For the past month the sports world has been gripped with Euros fever.

International soccer, at its best, represents the world as it is meant to be, with nations passionately supported by delighted fans and coming together over their common humanity (and love of the game). However, the beautiful game has been tarnished by sportswashing, or the usage of sports by controversial states to clean up their image and cover up human rights violations.
